A-Hole Lot of Sucky: 10 Most Annoying Things in Online Gaming

The unending Chuck Norris debate on Barrens Chat or the sound of squealing kids who fired a headshot into their friends' characters in Counter Strike can be forgiven and forgotten, but some things just don't ever leave your mind. Someone over at Aeropause decided to air out the ten most annoying things in online gaming, and it talks about most of the things (and people) we really do happen to hate.

10. Typing - While not bad in and of itself, the trend seems to be moving to coordinating through speech. The author did implore PC game makers to "take out typing and force everyone to buy USB headsets," but you're going to be sorely out of place in the online world if you're deaf or mute, but a damned fast typist. It's a minor annoyance, to be sure.

9. Kids - One of those other minor annoyances. There are definitely very gracious and well-behaved kids, but it's the "most annoying, horrible, and inconceivable teammates you’d ever want to play with" types of kids that make you want to cry out in pain. Add the higher ranked annoyances to spoiled kids and you have a migraine.

8. Weapon Whores - These are the folks who either know they're good with a weapon and like to use it, or who just like particular weapons because they're some kind of godly fire from heaven. Let's add ninjas to that list, shall we?

7. Spawn Campers - Where's the fun in griefing someone that way? Waiting for someone to spawn just to kill them again is just plain bad sportsmanship.

6. EVIL Noobs - Let's make a distinction. Good newbs = People who are willing to learn by listening to criticism and refining their technique. Evil noobs: The guy in your raid who doesn't wait for casters to regen mana or the player who believes he can single-shot Hogger by himself at level 5 because "skull means he's as good as dead."

5. Corpse Humping (Teabagging) - In the real world, that's sick and illegal in some states. Don't practice your perversions in-game for goodness' sakes.

4. Racism + Homophobia - You probably all agree that venting some steam is alright. Using particular terms to express your frustration isn't the way to go, however, in online games. Actually, don't do it on our comments and forums as well. It makes life so much easier that way.

3. Lag - The original author said it best. "The thing about lag though is that it seems to show its ugly head at the wrong time. How many times have you been getting ready to make a kill and all of a sudden your prey is on the other side of the room walking face first into the wall?" Amen.

2. Cheaters - Come on, it's the wussy way to play. You're stacking the odds in your favor! Worse still if the person cheating is one of those annoying kids. When you beat them with superior skill, they'll get angry at you for cheating. Yeah, as if teleporting to the opposing side in the Warsong Gulch battleground isn't cheating. Find some pride in honing your skills and reaching your killing prime!

1. A-Holes - Well, if you think about it, almost everything on this list has to be done by someone. It's just fitting that the top spot be reserved for the gamers who lie, cheat, steal, and basically make life hell for everyone else. Now, if only we could get rid of everything on this list (except for the typing, because typing is fun!), then the world would be a much better place.

theory

Life isn't about being stuck. Life is about change. One thing you do affects the other. Appreciate the beauty of it. The domino effect, chaos theory. What you do, say, type and act out counts.

A blog is for you to express yourself. Use it wisely. It may be your best weapon, it may be your only friend. It may be, your life.

Chaos Theory precedes.
